Mike McCoy

HE / HIM
Saskatoon Pride

I’m Mike McCoy (he/him), a proud “senior” member of Saskatoon’s queer community. I am proud to serve as a Co-Chair of the board, alongside the amazing Natasha King, whom I’ve grown to love and respect over the two years we have both been on the board. In 2019 I served as a member at large. This year, in addition to co-chairing duties, I’m serving on the following committees: Grants and Sponsorship, Marketing & Communications, Inclusion, Volunteers, Spark Your Pride, and as Saskatoon Pride Tourism project lead.

In 1972, I was one of a small group that founded the Zodiac Friendship Society which organized the first LGBT dances in Saskatoon. In 1991, I served as a founding co-chair of Gay & Lesbian Health Services (GLHS), which later became Avenue Centre for Gender and Sexuality Diversity and now OUTSaskatoon. I’m aa past board member of the Persons Living With AIDS (PLWA) Network and AIDS Saskatoon and was honoured to be part of the committee that brought the Canadian Memorial AIDS Quilt to Saskatoon.

I am in awe of all the talented and inspiring people on the Saskatoon Pride board and I’m excited to join them to make Saskatoon Pride an even more inclusive and safe space for all two spirit and queer folks and their allies. Over the next months, let’s create conversations and foster connections across the divides in our widely diverse community, taking pride in our stories and celebrating our lives. This year we face new and unexpected challenges, but let’s treat them as opportunities to re-think and re-tool Saskatoon Pride for the future.
